Calamus, that soft green reed with a spicy dryness that resembles cinnamon shot through with green leaves, is the start of the show here. It is surrounded by dark, balsamic notes that creates a swirling layer of smoke and resin around the core green spiciness of the calamus. It is a deeply invigorating yet soft, spicy, and mysterious scent.
The topnotes announce the soft presence of calamus and wrap it up in hot black pepper, oily coriander seeds, and dry, papery papyrus, giving a green, oily herbal effect that is half spice, half smoke. Rose and osmanthus appear, flushing the spice with the pinks and apricots of fresh flower petals - a cool, fresh breeze. In the base, a host of smoky, balsamic resins take the floral and spice topnotes and transform them into the smell of incense wafting through a church. Ever present, the calamus reigns supreme, with its soft, glowing green intensity like the only candle in the gloom. It burns out in a plume of cade oil smoke and a pool of creamy vanilla.
